Here is how you improve your leadership thinking and behaviour.

There are four questions you must answer.

They logically have to be answered in order.

Why change?

Only you can answer this one. You know better than anyone what change will fix for you and what the benefit of improvement is. It is safe to assume that it will have something to do with more satisfaction.

What to change?

There are specific thinking and behaviour styles that are preventing you from feeling more satisfaction and getting the engagement you want from your team. They will be either “Passive/Defensive” or “Aggressive/Defensive” and they are all security based. They act like the brakes in your car and will slow you down.

What to change to?

Four thinking and behaviour styles work well and create more satisfaction. That is why they are called “Constructive Styles“. They are satisfaction based. They act like the accelerator in your car and will speed up your growth.

How to change?

Think about how you drive a car. Once you are sitting in the drivers seat and the motor is running, the first thing you do is release the brakes. Then, once you have done that, you put your foot on the accelerator.

It is the same when you want to improve your leadership behaviour. Release the security based thinking and behaviour first and then slowly add some satisfaction based thinking and behaviour. It won’t be long before you will have new momentum and be ready to change up another gear.
