The practice of accelerated improvement must be based on what is, not on how we would like things to be.

We often do not have a proper understanding of where we are, of what we are actually doing or what the problem is.  We can not truly know what to change to without first knowing what to change.

From the beginning, improvement initiatives should be concerned with what actually exists.

“If I had an hour to solve a problem, I’d spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and 5 minutes thinking about solutions” – Albert Einstein
